Jonathan Glancey has written a piece for The Guardian about Woody Allen’s favourite font - Windsor-EF-Elongated, which he apparently idolised out of all proportion. The font has been used in the titles for most of the films Woody Allen has directed, including his latest - You Will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger.
The font was originally designed by Elisha Pechey in 1905 for the Sheffield type foundry Stephenson, Blake. According to The Guardian, Allen was recommended the playful typeface by the great American typographer Ed Benguiat, who just happened to eat breakfast in the same diner as Allen. “Allen liked it, and that was that. Windsor became a signature of his films, along with old jazz tunes, thick-framed specs, fast-paced dialogue and neurosis.”
One day I’ll be so famous people’ll worship everything down to my favourite fucking font.
